Resumen
Guápulo constituye un barrio de importancia jerárquica para la ciudad de Quito en relación a su cultura e identidad. El patrimonio material e inmaterial se ha mantenido gracias a la existencia de una vida comunitaria y prácticas tradicionales que giran en torno a festividades religiosas. Los vínculos comunitarios de la población originaria han generado un sentido de pertenencia al territorio y a la comunidad, los cuales han trascendido a los cambios territoriales y sociales vividos en este barrio. Los nuevos habitantes y sus dinámicas culturales han convivido de manera armónica con las prácticas , generando un “capital simbólico” que podría propiciar un desarrollo local del cual se beneficiaría tanto la población endógena como exógena. Guápulo se ha transformado en un atractivo turístico relevante en la ciudad debido, principalmente, a sus características patrimoniales, asociadas a sus tradiciones ancestrales, sus edificaciones y su paisaje. El turismo, la gentrificación y las tendencias de la globalización enmarcadas en lógicas empresarialistas, amenazan la conservación del patrimonio inmaterial de Guápulo, siendo las políticas y la planificación territorial importantes para preservar este espacio rico en cultura e identidad.

Abstract
Guápulo is a neighborhood of hierarchical importance for the city of Quito regarding to their culture and identity. The tangible and intangible heritage has been maintained thanks to the existence of a community life and traditional practices that are generated around religious holidays. Community links have generated a sense of belonging to the territory and to the community, which have transcended the territorial and social changes experienced in this area. The new population and their cultural dynamics have lived in harmony with traditional cultural forms, creating a «symbolic capital» that could lead to a local development, in which both, endogenous and exogenous population, will benefit. With these features, Guápulo has become an important tourist attraction in the city, mainly for its heritage features, associated with their ancestral traditions, its buildings and landscape. Tourism, gentrification and globalization trends, framed in the logic of the market, threat the preservation of the intangible heritage of Guápulo, because of that, policies and territorial planning are extremely important to preserve the richness of this area, his culture and identity.
